Project pedometer - how active am I?

10-03-2009 14:17:29

This week I will try test my walking activity, so I have brought two different pedometers to count my steps, and why did i buy two?, just to test the accurancy, I will make an avarage by both of them to compare with.

I did start yesterday, and my test will end sunday at midnight. In this periode I can create a graph of my week activities, and I shall try describe my day by making a list of keywords.

After a small research on the net, I did find little more information about pedometers, I could through this page (http://walking.about.com/cs/measure/a/locke122004.htm) to see what targets i might have and how many steps that were recommended for my age.

Here is the goals from the website i just linked too.

Step counters - Count information

Classification of pedometer-determined physical activity in healthy adults..
1 - Under 5000 steps/day may be used as a "sedentary lifestyle index".
2 - 5,000-7,499 steps/day is typical of daily activity excluding sports/exercise "low active".
3 - 7,500-9,999 likely includes some exercise or walking.
4 - 10,000 steps day indicates the point that should be used to classify individuals as "active".
5 - Individuals who take more than 12,500 steps/day are likely to be classified as "highly active".

Since wednesday (11/03-08) i did choosen not the use the black edition, since it started not to count currectly, I think it's the battery.. Thank you China, for not sending it, with a fresh battery!

Test done

Actually it's quite funny to see the results, I thought i was more active, but it was a quite bad week, some bad news did came up, and some of my plans did not happend. Anyway the keywords is also just a quick information for you, because otherwise I look very lazy, but I'm not ;)... Got many activities and things to do each day, but would take to much place to write it all into each day.

I really hope that I have inspired other people to try create this test by them self, and write about it, it's funny to see the different, between other activities. But remember, no weeks are the same, that's a good thing, but that's why you just can use it as a guideline, or you could mount it to your body and collect the data of your activity for a hole year ;)

Good luck testing it!
